DESCRIPTION:
The Highcom 4SSS2 is a high end lightweight ballistic armor solution comprised of a Silicon Carbide Ceramic core, supported by a lightweight and high tensile strength Polyethelene backer. 
Weighing in at just 5.9lbs per Medium plate, this is among the lightest level 4s on the market. 
 
The Highcom 4SSS2 is an NIJ .04 Certified Level 4 plate capable of defeating multiple hits of 7.62x54R B32 API, .30-06 M2 AP, 7.62x51mm (M80 Ball, M61 AP, M80A1), 5.56x45mm (M193, M855, M855A1, M995) and 7.62x39mm (FMJ, API).
 
While not as lightweight as our higher end LTC 26300 Boron Carbide lightweight level 4s, the Highcom 4SSS2 has some slightly different characteristics that gives it an edge in defeating high velocity tungsten core projectiles.
 
There are three primary types of ceramic material in armor, Aluminum oxide ceramic (cheapest), Silicon Carbide, and Boron Carbide. Aluminum oxide is the softest, but has the highest fracture resistance. Boron Carbide is the hardest, but has a slightly lower fracture resistance. Silicon carbide combines the best of both of these worlds, being harder than Aluminum Oxide Ceramic, but having more fracture resistance against Tungsten Core AP threats. 
The US military XSAPI, designed to defeat 7.62x51mm M993 and 5.56x45mm M995 is made with Silicon Carbide for this reason. 
 
While still made with the highest end materials in its class, Silicon Carbide is marginally more affordable than Boron Carbide.
Which makes this an excellent alternative to our LTC 26300 plates.
With the "best of both worlds" characteristics, this is also a prime option for those wanting better performance against tungsten cored AP threats and next generation armor piercing threats.
